Amy - SPOTY Finalist 2010

Amy Williams makes final 10 in this year’s BBC Sports Personality of the Year

The Winter Olympic champion - who was recently honoured with an MBE, has enjoyed an incredible rise to fame since taking Skeleton gold in Vancouver earlier this year.  Amy became Britain's first individual female gold medallist since Jeannette Altwegg triumphed at Oslo in 1952, and is hoping to become the first winter Olympic Sports Personality since Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean 1984.

Amy flew round the Whistler track at speeds of up to 90 miles an hour on her way to victory, finishing over half a second in front of the silver medal position. Her achievement is all the more remarkable as Britain does not have a full skeleton track to train on, apart from a dry starting section near Bath.

She faces competition from the likes of Graeme Mc Dowell and David Haye for the UK's most prestigious sports award.

This year's awards take place at the LG Arena in Birmingham on Sunday 19 December on BBC One.
