Cycling World Champships

Lizzie Armitstead and David Daniell represent Great Britain in the 2010 UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark...

Dave Daniell has been named in a strong Men's Sprint team alongside Matt Crampton, Ross Edgar, Jason Kenny and Sir Chris Hoy and is due to compete today. Dave will be looking to use the championships as a further opportunity to showcase his exceptional talent and stamp his authority in the men's sprinting discipline on a world stage.

Lizzie Armitstead will be competing alongside Wendy Houvenaghel and Joanna Rowsell in the Women's Team Pursuit tomorrow and in the Women's Omnium on Saturday. Lizzie is the defending champion in the Women's Team Pursuit and the British trio start as favourites to defend their crown. Lizzie will also be competing in the Women's Omnium, reintroduced into the Track Cycling World Championships in 2007, Omnium is a five event race and is known as the pentathlon of cycling, where each competitor must complete all five events - 200m flying time trial, 5km scratch race, 3km individual pursuit, 15km points race and 1km time trial. The rider that scores the lowest points wins the Omnium, and they will have to be good at sprinting, time-trialling and bunched racing, traits that Lizzie contains.

Below is the performance dates for David and Lizzie.

March 24th - David performs in the Men's Team Sprint

March 25th - Lizzie performs in the Women's Team Pursuit

March 27th - Lizzie performs in the Women's Omnium (five events)

Yesterday Lizzie Armitstead claimed the Silver medal as Team GB's Women's Team Pursuit came in second place behind an Australian team that needed to set a new world record to claim victory.

Congratulations to Lizzie on yet another medal to add to an already impressive back catalog!
