Dean's Bobsleigh Challenge

Dean Macey's attempt to qualify for the British Bobsleigh Championships documented on BBC1...

Dean, the reigning Commonwealth Decathlon Champion has teamed up alongside former World Indoor 60m Champion Jason Gardener in an attempt to qualify for the British Bobsleigh Championships. The heroic effort was followed by the BBC in a documentary screened on BBC1.

The show, entitled ‘Bobsleigh Challenge' followed the pair, who only had two weeks to prepare for the event which took place at the Cesana Pariol track in Italy.

Dean, who retired from athletics last Summer, guided the two-man team to a respectable mid-field position in their debut competition in the high-speed winter sport. They completed the competition in 2:00.59 - only five seconds behind the winners Lee Johnston and former European Junior 4x100m relay gold medalist Daniel Money.

"I'm hoping that the bobsleigh is not a one off," Dean exclaimed. "It's the maddest, baddest sport I've done. It suited me down to a tee. It was hard, fast, aggressive and rough. The atmosphere was brilliant. A phenomenal experience."
