Dean Completes Rat Race

LONDON's annual Rat Race took place at the weekend and Commonwealth decathlete gold medallist Dean Macey lead the 1000 strong tribe...

Being a decathlete Dean Macey is well equipped to handle a multi-discipline event, however, London's fourth annual Rat Race is something a little different. Dean lined up with over 1000 other competitors to complete a series of physical and mental challenges whilst dashing around the capital's streets in the multi-sport race.

In preparation to the race Dean commented "I am well up for this challenge but unlike most other events I've taken part in I have had no idea how to prepare for this one. A Rat Race is completely different to anything I've ever done in the past and I'm not really sure what I've let myself in for."

The two day race did not disappoint. Armed with maps and a list of clues, Dean and the other challengers navigated their way around the course which included tracking down the narrowest street in London, busking, canoeing, fitness drills with the Army and teeing off at a golf club. All this was just on Day 1. Day 2 saw more of the same as Dean had to criss-cross the River Thames near Tower Bridge, ride to Crystal Palace where he then went swimming before travelling to the Oval to play cricket and do a spot of absailing. A kayak at the Docklands Watersports and Sailing Club was followed by a work out in Mile End Park's Street circuit and then a jaw-rattling descent down the steps at Westferry Circus rounded off the weekend.

Congratulations to Dean and all the competitors that made the event the World's largest rat race!
