Gold For Goodison

Paul Goodison overcame a world class field to finish on top in the Laser final of the ISAF Sailing World Cup.

Olympic Champion Paul Goodison executed a magnificent sail to finished 3rd in the medal race and 1st overall. Paul emerged on top from the fascinating Laser class showdown which saw him competing against the current World Champion, Tom Slingsby and fellow Brit sailor Nick Thompson, all entering the medal race on level points.

With the finishing order between the three sailors determining the order of podium spots, Paul took the initiative early on, rounding the first windward mark in first place.

"After getting round the top mark leading it was all a bit easier seeing the guys behind me," Goodison reflected. From then it was just about making sure I didn't do anything silly and finishing it off."

"It was going to be whoever was going to cross the line first, so the only real option was to go and win the race," said Paul Goodison.

With another Sailing World Cup win safely under his belt Paul is confident that he can handle the pressure of defending his Olympic title on home water in 2012.

"I'm pretty happy with how I'm sailing and to see me delivering under pressure. Fingers crossed for the rest of the season."

Congratulations from MTC!
