Idowu for Sports Personality

Phillips Idowu has been named as a candidate for the prestigious BBC Sports Personality of the year award.

The BBC Sports Personality of the year award has a shortlist of ten sports performers that have competed exceptionally well during the past year. Phillips is joined on the shortlist with sporting stars, Jenson Button, Mark Cavendish, Tom Daley, Jessica Ennis, Ryan Giggs, David Haye, Andy Murray, Andrew Strauss and Beth Tweddle.

This nomination cements Phillips' place as Britain's leading male track and field athlete and rounds off an excellent year for him as he leapt 17.73m to win the gold medal at the World Championships in Berlin. The shortlist was put together by a panel of 26 sports editors from national and regional newspapers and magazines and you, the public, will be able to vote for Phillips as your BBC Sports Personality of the Year by telephone during the program. Be sure to tune in to the live broadcast on Sunday 13th December, 7pm on BBC1 and vote for Phillips.

We wish Phillips all the best and congratulate him on his outstanding year.
