Jenny And Kelly Medal In Paris

Jenny Meadows returned from Paris with two silver medals and Kelly Sotherton with one after producing fine displays at the European Indoor Championships in Paris

At the European Indoor Championships in Paris, Jenny Meadows produced multiple fine performances to claim two silver medals for Team GB. In the 800m, Jenny was a medal hope for Great Britain in a strong field and she advanced to the final by winning her heat and semi-final on consecutive days. Unfortunately for Jenny, her third consecutive day of racing proved slightly too much for that gold medal as she just got beaten to the finish line in the final straight and had to settle for a very commendable silver medal.

Jenny then remarkably had to pick herself up to race in the final of the women's 4x400m final just one hour after she raced in the 800m final. Jenny ran the final leg and once again produced a stellar display to help Team GB claim the silver medal.

After the race Jenny said, "I have real mixed feelings; it's a bit of both really. I'm disappointed with the 800m. I felt amazing and like I could run a couple of seconds faster than that so I took the decision last night that I'd take the race from the front. On that last lap I tensed up a bit, maybe I felt the pressure. But then I couldn't think about my disappointment because the relay was the perfect opportunity to get back out there and do something and it was fantastic, really great by the girls."

Also on the women's 4x400m team was Kelly Sotherton. Kelly, who cemented her place in the team following her victory at the UK trials last month, is still learning the new event and led the team out with a strong first leg which enabled them to secure the silver medal with a time of 3:31.36.

Kelly's first major competition as a 400m runner saw her involved in a tough first leg where her legs were continuously being clipped by opponents. However, Kelly put it all down to learning the trade the hard way and reflected "I didn't do myself justice, I'm learning, 400m is a dangerous indoors! I skipped, tripped and was pushed but we are pleased with silver."

Congratulations to both Jenny and Kelly!
