Jonathan Returns To School

Jonathan Edwards is visiting Caledonia Primary School today to encourage children to sign up for the Junior Great Scottish Run...

Pupils at Caledonia Primary School will have an extra spring in their step during today's PE lesson, courtesy of their new stand-in PE teacher, MTC's Olympic Gold medallist Jonathan Edwards. Jonathan is in Glasgow to encourage children to sign up for the Junior Great Scottish Run.

The Junior Great Scottish Run, supported by Lloyds TSB and Bank of Scotland, has two exciting races to choose from.  The standard 3k distance or a shorter 1.5k course.  It will race through Glasgow on Saturday 5 September, with over 1,750 young people, aged 9 to 17 years old, expected to take part.

Ahead of his visit to the school Jonathan, who is a Lloyds TSB London 2012 Ambassador, said; "My school encouraged me to try different sports, it was there I discovered my aptitude for triple jump.  With support and encourage I became the English Schools Champion and my career took off from there.

"Today I'd like to encourage these children, and all young people, who've never tried running before to give it a go.  The Junior Great Scottish Run provides the perfect platform to aim for - I've always found I perform better when I have a goal in mind.  At the very least you'll have fun and improve your fitness levels, you might even be a future world-record holder in the making".
