Liz Helps GB Win World Cup

Liz Johnson was part of the victorious Great Britain Paralympic swimming team who were crowned BT Paralympic World Cup Trophy champions on Saturday.

Taking place at the Manchester Aquatics Centre, the BT Paralympic World Cup saw the world best Paralympic swimmers battle it out for individual and team glory in to pool.

Liz, current Paralympic champion, competed in the 200m individual medley and her favoured event the 100m breaststroke in which she claimed gold in Beijing. Liz placed 5th in the SM6 individual medley with a time of 3:24:48 minutes.

The SM6 100m breaststroke was a closely contested race featuring the current World and Paralympic champions. With 20 metres to go Liz and her GB team mate Charlotte Henshaw were head to head. The result came down to the touch with just 0.28 of a second separating Liz from her rival. Liz was forced to settle for 2nd Place on this occasion, but was extremely pleased with her time of 1:39:61 minutes.

Liz was happy with her performance in the 200m individual medley:

"This isn't my best event as I am not as abled as some of my competitors but in terms of my progress it was a really good race. I had a fast time for myself and I am really happy the hard work from the training camp in Majorca is paying off. I am really looking forward to the Europeans now, we will get to taper beforehand and we will be going head to head again."

Congratualtions from everyone at MTC!
