Lizzie Back To Her Winning Ways

Lizzie Armitstead showed she is back on form by winning the first stage of the Tour of Chongming Island.

Lizzie beat last year's overall winner Ina-Yoko Teutenberg in a spectacular sprit finish under difficult conditions. Heavy rain washed debris onto the course, resulting in a number of punctures and crashes, making the first stage extremely demanding despite the course's lack in technical difficulty.

After a difficult start to the 2011 season, plagued by injury and illness, Lizzie was delighted with her stage 1 win.

Having been unable to compete in the Track World Championships due to a side strain and being forced to pull out of the GP Elsy Jacobs in Luxembourg with stomach problems, Lizzie was unsure of how she would fair in China.

Any fears she would be out of shape or off the pace have been firmly put to bed, with her win demonstrating she's on form and back to her winning ways.

After the race Lizzie reflected on her win and as always was extremely complimentary about her team mates from Garmin:

"We expected that it would be a bunch sprint. We wanted to try to force something during the race, but only if there was a good moment. The good moment never came, so the girls tried to help me in the final stages. They did a good lead-out. A little bit too early, but they dropped me off on a good wheel so it was good."

Congratulations for all of us at MTC!
