Lizzie Sprints To Victory

Lizzie Armitstead sprinted away from the field to claim victory on the final stage of La Route de France and won the best young rider competition...

Lizzie Armitstead won the sixth and final stage of the Route de France between Saint-Die-des-Vosges and Vittel. The 21-year-old Brit outsprinted the much-reduced peloton at the end of the 118km stage to claim the stage victory and clinch fourth place in the overall standings, finishing just 48 seconds down on the winner.

Lizzie was Cervélo's highest placed rider and was delighted with her performance. Lizzie said "I thought I'll take on the sprint a little bit early and see what happens and it worked. Winning today is really good for my confidence. I've been coming closer each day and I needed a hard day like today."

This victory is Lizzie's second major international victory of the season after she won a stage of the Tour de l'Aude in May. From all at MTC - Congratulations Lizzie!
