Wiggo Unlucky In Time Trial

Bradley Wiggins was on course for a bronze medal before a mechanical problem wrecked his ride in the World Championships time trial in Mendrisio

Running fourth, Brad's chain began to slip, impinging on his break bracket, which made it virtually impossible to continue riding. After trying to repair the problem himself, Brad stopped in the assumption the GB support car would be able to replace his faulty bike. Unlucky for Brad, the car was backed up on the narrow roads behind which effectively ended any hope of a medal. Armed with a new bike, Brad coasted towards the finish line in 20th place.

Reflecting on the initial disappointment, Brad commented;

‘I was going well, I was on a good one...But I've done enough of these to know that stuff happens and to be honest I've had a lot of luck this year. I've come through two grand Tours without crashing once. A bit of bad luck at the end of the year is the way it goes'

Having opted out of the road race on Sunday, Brad's season will now come to a close in Australia having accepted an invitation to race in the eight day Sun Tour.
