MTC Clients Head To Worlds
MTC clients Harry Aikines Aryeetey, Phillips Idowu, Jenny Meadows and Perri Shakes Drayton have been named in the Great Britain squad for the athletics World Championships.
The Championships are taking place in Daegu, South Korea from the 27th August to 4th September. Harry has been selected for the 100m individual and 4x100m relay off the back of his 2nd place finish in the UK trials and an impressive run in the100m final at the Crystal Palace grand prix.
As current triple jump World Champion, Phillips Idowu is heading to Daegu to defend his title. With a host of victories in the Diamond League series, Phillips is in superb shape to take Gold yet again and add to his growing medal collection.
Having made history with her double victory in the 400m and the 400m hurdles at the UK trials, Perri Shakes-Drayton continued her successful season with a 3rd place finish , and a season's best, in a world class 400 hurdles field at the Crystal Palace Diamond League meet. Since graduating from university and focusing on athletics full time, Perri has gone from strength to strength and is now looking to stamp her mark on the world stage.
Another strong contender for a medal in Daegu comes in the from MTC's pocket rocket Jenny Meadows. Jenny clinched her first senior UK outdoor title at the trials in July, despite having won a record 7 indoor titles, and is in supreme form ahead of the World Championships. Having won a bronze medal in Berlin last year Jenny is looking for a higher place on the podium at this year's Championships. Jenny received a timely confidence boost by taking a victory in the 800m at the Crystal Palace Diamond League meet last weekend. Kicking from 200m out Jenny motored away from the rest of the field to clock a season's best time of 1 minute 58.60 seconds beating the diamond league leader in the process. Jenny was delighted with the result:
‘Victory surpassed my expectations, it's out of this world, and it gives me great confidence ahead of the worlds,' said Meadows.
