Paul Wins On His Return In Hyères

Paul Goodison claimed yet another victory on his return to international competitive action...

MTC's Paul Goodison struck gold again at his first international event of the London 2012 Olympic cycle, at the fourth leg of the ISAF World Cup in Hyeres. After a week of light conditions, winds of 20 knots swept across the course areas for the final double points scoring medal races at this French Olympic Sailing Week.

Olympic Laser Champion Paul, who led the single-handed Laser fleet since the second day of the event, finished third in the ten-boat medal race to claim gold 19 points ahead of Russia's Maxim Semerkhanov in second.

On completing his vistory Paul said, "It's nice to be back sailing again. I've not sailed much in the light wind so it was quite reassuring to be performing in those conditions this week."

"In the final series the results didn't really show how well I sailed. I thought I sailed pretty well but unfortunately just seemed to be on the wrong side for the first five minutes of each race but apart from than that I did pretty well."

Paul who also won the event in 2002, is now looking to continue his dominance in the Laser sailing category, and remain as World number 1 for the next three years in the run up to defending his Olympic title at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
