Perri's Sunday Times Interview

After her exploits in Barcelona, Perri has become a lady in demand and a hot prospect in the world of athletics reports the Sunday Times...

Sunday Times reporter Richard Lewis caught up with Perri just after she returned from Barcelona as a double European medallist and just before she was about to be jetted off to New York for a modelling shoot with Nike. Lewis reports that ‘the girl from Bow in east London is in great demand, a sign of what lies ahead for her.'

During the interview, Lewis recalled ‘a month ago she was among those being talked about within athletic circles as a big hope for the Olympics in London in 2012. In Barcelona, Shakes-Drayton did not disappoint' and has one of Great Britain's most successful female athletes supporting her all the way. ‘[Sally] Gunnell texted her a message of congratulations: "Next stop Stratford"' after her amazing 400m hurdle final in which Perri became the third fastest British athlete in the event, behind former Olympic, World, Commonwealth and European champion Sally Gunnell and Natasha Danvers.

In a very down-to-earth interview, 21 year-old Perri stated that she is planning to be around for a long time yet saying "I don't want to be a one-hit wonder" as her goals go beyond performing well at London 2012. "Hurdlers peak around the age of 26, 27 [so] I am looking to Rio in 2016." Richard Lewis, Sally Gunnell and many others are predicting big things from the bubbly Shakes-Drayton and come London 2012 they may well be proved right!
