Phil Collects Award In Budapest

Phillips Idowu was presented with the 2009 European Athlete of the Year Awards at a glittering ceremony during the second European Athletics Convention in the Hungarian capital city of Budapest on Saturday night

At this year's IAAF World Championships in Berlin, Phillips took the World Championship title with a world-leading and personal best jump of 17.73m in Berlin. In doing so, Idowu finds himself in a unique category as World champion and European Athlete of the year.

Whilst happy with the accolade, Phillips remains determined to keep improving;

‘Regardless of being number 1, it's not good enough because I'm not Olympic champion or the world record holder'
