Phillips And Jenny Victorious

Jenny Meadows and Phillips Idowu both won their respective events at the Birmingham leg of the Diamond League Athletics.

Jenny, current World bronze medallist, produced an experienced run to take the victory in the women's 800 metres in a time of 2 minutes 02.06 seconds. Jenny also competed in the Paris leg of the Diamond League on Friday night (8th July) against a world class field and finished in 3rd position. Fellow Brit Perri Shakes-Drayton came home in a time of 54.79 seconds in the 400 metre hurdles to take 4th position in Paris. Jenny now sits in 3rd position on the League leader board for the 800 metres.

Phillips Idowu produced another consistent performance in Diamond league competition to take the win and another 4 league points at the Alexander Stadium. In less than perfect conditions Phillips produced five jumps over 17 metres, winning the competition with a leap of 17.54 metres (over 40cm ahead of the athlete in 2nd position.) Another victory in Diamond League competition cemented Phillips's position at the top of the league standings in the triple jump.

Harry Aikines Aryeetey finished in 5th position, with a time of 10.23 seconds, in the men's 100 metres heats against a world class field.
