Phillips Awarded An MBE
Phillips Idowu has been recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list with an MBE
The current World and European champion was awarded the MBE whilst competing in New York. Phillips triumphed in the Diamond League Grand Prix against a world class field and horrific weather conditions.
He took the competition with a jump of 16.67 metres after battling against pouring rain and strong cross winds. Amongst his competitors were the current indoor world record holder Teddy Tamgho and former Olympic and World champion Christain Olsson.
Phillips was pleased with his win in New York and to be acknowledged for his services to athletics. "I am absolutely delighted to have been awarded an MBE in the Queen's birthday honors this year. It means a lot to get this extra boost ahead of the Olympics in 2012. I look forward to putting on my finest for a day at the palace."
