Phillips Hackney Ambassador
Phillips Idowu has been announced as an ambassador for Radio One's 2012 Big Weekend.
The event shall take place on the Hackney Marshes in June 2012. This will be the first big event of the London 2012 festival and will feature 80 acts over 2 days.
Phillips joined fellow ambassadors Leona Lewis and Trevor Nelson to launch the ‘BBC Radio 1's Hackney Weekend 2012' yesterday. Phillips, current World and European triple jump champion, was born and raised in Hackney and is one of Britains best hopes for athletics gold at next years Olympics.
At the lanuch event Phillips expressed his delight at being selected as an ambassdor for next years event:
"I'm proud to be from Hackney and it's amazing for the borough to stage what is sure to be one of the biggest and best musical events in UK history. I have a big event to look forward to in 2012, so being selected as an ambassador for this event is massively exciting. I'm a big music fan so to have something like this taking place on Hackney Marshes is a great honour."
