Phillips wins BOA award

Phillips Idowu has been named the British Olympic Association’s athlete of the year and has been awarded the prize for outstanding performance by Sports Journalist Association.

2009 has been a remarkable year for Phillips. He won gold in the athletics World Championships, was named as the British Athletics Writers Association athlete of the year and his coach Aston Moore, jointly won the prestigious UKA world class coach of the year award on the back of his and Phillips' fantastic achievements. Added to his impressive collection of awards now is the BOA award and the SJA award for outstanding performance. Phillips was up against fierce competition from athletes such as Jessica Ennis for these awards and Phil shall be aiming to scoop one more prize before 2010 as he has been nominated for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.

The BBC Sports Personality of the Year award will be broadcasted live on Sunday and you can vote for Phillips by telephone during the program. Let's get behind Phillips and give him one more award in recognition to an outstanding year as Great Britain's leading male athlete.
