Pippa In GB Squad For World Games

Pippa Funnell has been named as part of the British Eventing team for the World Equestrian Games…

The World Equestrian Games will commence on September 25 in Kentucky and Pippa Funnel will be part of the British squad competing for honours for the first time since she won two Olympic medals in 2004.

Pippa has not had a horse of true championship status since Primmore’s Pride, who won Badminton in his last full season in 2005, as she has been concentrating on a unearthing youngsters with 2012 potential while pursuing a parallel career in international showjumping with the home-bred Billy On Show. However, it now seems that she has managed to unearth such a horse – Redesigned and he could be the horse with 2012 pedigree as just last month Pippa and Redesigned won at Bramham.

Pippa’s focus has been to prepare the relatively untried nine-year-old Redesigned for London 2012 and so was surprised when she received the call up to the British squad this early commenting “if anyone had told me six months ago [that she would be selected], I never would have believed them. I know as well as anyone the ups and downs of having horses, but it’s still a huge honour to be asked. It would be a dream come true to be riding with some of my old team-mates.”

The British team will be looking to utilise Pippa’s championship pedigree and experience having previously won the spring four-star event at the Lexington venue in their quest for gold.

Congratulations to Pippa from all at MTC
