Pursuit Gold For Wiggins

Team pursuit Gold for Bradley Wiggins at Manchester World Cup…

At a packed Manchester Velodrome last Sunday, Bradley Wiggins helped the GB team pursuit squad record the fifth-fastest time ever to show they are still favorites to hold on to their gold medal at London in 2012.

Touted for a potential world record following an impressive 3:57 in qualifying, the team recorded a time of 3min 55.438sec for the 4km distance, just short of the 3:53.314 target. The result was a huge statement of intent to their competitors, particularly the Australian team who have received a huge amount of hype in recent months.

Whilst disappointed to miss out on the record, reflecting on the victory, Bradley was impressed with the performance given the team has only spent 2 weeks together in training;

"I'm slightly surprised - People forget about us sometimes. There's a lot of talk of the Aussies getting themselves together. But we will defend our title. We are favourites. We need to be realistic about today. Two rides of the quality we did (in qualifying and in the final) on one day in February is fantastic. It's a real step forward for London"

Bradley's focus will now turn back to the road as he prepares for his next onslaught in the Tour de France.
