Shelagh's Blog...2

Shelagh Fogarty will be swimming a mile in the Serpentine Lake, Hyde Park later this month to raise funds for Sport Relief. Be sure to check back for regular updates on how she is preparing for the challenge...!

With the swim under two weeks away, MTC managed to catch up with Shelagh to see how her training was going and how she was feeling. In a word - Nervous!

Shelagh said "after taking soundings from those in the know, the wetsuit option is a must at this time of year so I travelled to Manchester to meet the people at Tricentral, who provide wetsuits for Open Water swimmers and have an endless pool of options to try."

Armed with a brand new wetsuit and an endless amount of lengths done in the pool, Shelagh was ready to tackle the icy water at Tooting Bec Lido for the first time. "It's 3 degrees!" reported a very cold Shelagh, although her mood did change as "the wetsuit is a triumph and I established without a doubt neoprene sox will be the latest addition to my expanding water based wardrobe. But most importantly Peter Thompson, my friend and coach, remembered to bring hot flask and sugary tea - best drink of my life!"

Shelagh is delighted at how her training is going thus far and is ready to step it up another level tomorrow as she heads to the Serpentine, "can hardly wait" she says without sarcasm?
