Two Gold’s For Lizzie

Armistead dominates points race and set’s new world record in Team pursuit

Lizzie produced a star performance with a stunning ride in the Womens Points race. In the closing event on Saturday night, the 20-year-old brought the crowd to their feet by domonstrating both speed and nerve to take the last two sprints to prevail in gustry style.

Lizzie managed to continue her fine form with a record breaking perfomance in the team pursuit the following day. The trio of Houvenaghel, Armitstead and Rowsell knocked 0.6sec off the record set at the 2008 World Championships when Rebecca Romero was in the team instead of Armitstead. The injection of Armitstead has taken the team to a new level, as the time suggests, and they reckon they can get even better than the winning time of 3min 21.875sec. Lizzie commented;

‘We have got so much more to offer in this event...I believe by London 2012 we will be riding close to 3-12'

Congratulations Lizzie on a fantastic achievement from all at MTC!
