Wiggins At Tour de France

Regular updates as to how Bradley Wiggins is doing at this year tour de france…

Arguably last year's surprise package, Bradley Wiggins, lead rider for Team Sky in their first ever Tour de France and the team can be pleased with how they have done thus far. After finishing 4th in 2009, Bradley was recruited by Team Sky's Principal Dave Brailsford to try and become the first British rider to podium in the Tour. Although last year's winner Alberto Contador will start this year's race as favourite, Bradley will rank alongside last years 2nd and 3rd place riders, Andy Schleck and Lance Armstrong for the coveted yellow jersey.

The gruelling three week race is made up of 1 prologue and 20 stages and will see Bradley cover a total distance of 3642 kilometres. The Tour commences from Saturday 3rd July until Sunday 25th July where the riders will endure 25 level 1, level 2 and highest level mountain passes, slippery cobblestones and only 2 rest days.

The 184.5km ride from Sisteron to Bourg-lès-Valence  is one of the least demanding stages of the tour and was a day for the sprinters to grab the headlines. Mark Cavendish came home in first place in a time of 4:42;29 with Bradley finishing with the peloton in the same time.

Bradley remains in 17th position, 7' 18" behind race leader Andy Schleck after he endured a difficult stage 8 and 9 of the tour where he slipped behind his rivals and pre-race favourites Contador and Schleck.
