‘The next Chris Hoy' - Shane Sutton, Head Coach at British Cycling

Earmarked as a real star for the future, David Daniell has the potential to emulate and even succeed the long list of talented riders who currently fly the flag for Team GB.

First spotted whilst participating in British Cycling's Go-Ride scheme at school, David was quickly enrolled into the British Cycling Talent Team and enjoyed a successful rise through the junior ranks, picking up back to back World Team sprint championships in 2006 and 2007. He announced himself on the world stage when claiming victory in the kilometre time trial in November 2008 at his first senior World Cup event. The following year, David claimed silver at the UCI World Cup in Manchester in October 2009, thus demonstrating his prodigious sprinting talent.

2010 has proved to be a remarkable year for David as he further enhanced his flourishing reputation. In the British National Track Championships, David was narrowly beaten in the sprint semi final to finish 4^th just a place behind the man he is tipped to emulate, Sir Chris Hoy. Then, just a month later, David headed to Delhi for the Commonwealth Games to represent England and returned with a silver medal in one of the most memorable men's keirin finals seen on the international stage.

As part of British Cycling's Olympic Podium Programme, the 21 year olds talent has been carefully nurtured and his results have continued to improve on both a domestic and international level. David proved all the hard work is paying off in winning three silvers (sprint, keirin, team sprint) at the national Track Championships in October 2011. Edged to the title on all three occasions by Sir Chris Hoy, it serves as further encouraging evidence that the gap between the two is closing. Buoyed by this confidence, David's training programme will now be tapered specifically to build up his form in time for the Track World Cup event in Beijing in January 2012
