MTC TALENT MANAGEMENT
Shelagh Fogarty
Presenter & Journalist,
BBC Radio 5 Live,
Tonight with Trevor McDonald,
Radio Four,
The World at One.
Shelagh can currently be heard co hosting the Radio 5 Live breakfast show with Nicky Campbell. Having co hosted the show for the last 4 years Shelagh has interviewed the country's top politicians, sports stars, musicians and actors and covered some of the biggest events across the UK including broadcasting live from East London the morning after the city won the bid to host the 2012 Olympics. With her irreverent sense of humour Shelagh makes politics and the most hard hitting news stories accessible to a mass audience.
After gaining a Degree from Durham University in Spanish, French and Portuguese Shelagh then started her career with the BBC as a Broadcast Journalist, she trained across Britain reporting and producing for various BBC Radio and TV regions including Radio Four and BBC North West with programmes from The World at One, PM, Sunday Service and Euronews.
Whilst at the BBC Shelagh anchored the extensive coverage of the American Presidential Elections, broadcast live from St Peter's Square in Rome for the funeral of Pope John Paul 2nd and travelled to Thailand to cover the devastation from the Boxing Day Tsunami. A compassionate and thoughtful journalist, Shelagh was asked to cover the live 20th Anniversary service at Anfield for the Hillsborough tragedy, the James Bulger murder trial and he Madrid train bombings.
As always there is a lighter side to life and Shelagh knows how to enjoy it. She had great fun covering not only Madonna's wedding to Guy Ritchie but also exclusively breaking the story for Five Live that an intruder had hidden himself in the cathedral organ for days to film Rocco Ritchie's christening. Not opposed to roughing it and all in the name of broadcasting, Shelagh has also camped overnight in an Essex field with over 40 thousand scouts for the World Scout Jamboree! More recently. Shelagh participated in the BBC's Sports Relief campaign by swimming a mile in the vastly unpleasant waters of the Serpentine in Hyde Park.
An experienced presenter and writer, Shelagh has been a guest reporter for ITV on Tonight with Trevor McDonald and presented for BBC North West. She is a regular contributor to the Daily Telegraph, Total Politics and The Tablet.
